Greeks spend MLK Day with City Year - Jan. 17, 2011

Members of Marquette’s Greek Community started their spring semester early by making January 17, 2011 a day on rather than a day off.  Students from the Panhellenic, Interfraternity, and National Pan-Hellenic councils participated in a Martin Luther King Day of Service project sponsored by City Year Milwaukee. With members from other local organizations, Marquette Greeks worked on projects to beautify South Division High School, the second-oldest high school in the state of Wisconsin. These men and women painted murals of flags of all the nations in the Eastern Hemisphere, inspirational quotes, history of Milwaukee, and influential figures in American history on the walls of hallways and stairwells of the school. After completing the project, participating students from Marquette spent time reflecting on the day’s activities as well as the mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. The night ended with a discussion with and performance by Grammy Award Winning poet, J. Ivy!
